I also gave this patch a quick try using my AI test database. AI aircraft 
loading is much smoother now, and I also don't see any negative side effects. 
I do need to test this a bit further though.I will post some comments 
regarding the code later, but will most likely do that off list. 

On thing to note is that the xml based AI livery selection is broken. IIRC, 
this is not related to this patch, but something that was introduced already 
while ago. I'll look into that later.
