Various aircraft will cause FGFS to lock up after varying amounts of
time. The symptoms are that the computer will completely freeze: No
change in graphics, no mouse movement possible and no keystrokes
interpreted.
Total computer lockups usually point to an issue with your hardware,
drivers, or underlying OS. Modern operating systems and hardware should
never allow an application to completely hang the computer, so when that
happens, it's usually an indication of a problem with the host computer.
I would like to provide as much detail as possible, but don't know
what might be necessary. Otherwise, I might even be able to fix it
myself (slim chance...)
Hardware:
NVidia GeForce 4MX, 128MB (soon to be changed)
1.5GB RAM (never at much more than 1/3full while running FGFS, as
reported by gkrellm)
Software:
FGFS and (of course) SimGear from CVS, updated every couple of days.
Debian testing, updated more often than FGFS is.
NVidia 8756 drivers
Aircraft:
Guilty:
Messerschmidt Bf109G (locks after approx. 1 minute)
P51D Mustang (maybe 2 minutes)
Beechcraft 1900D (5 minutes)
Aerostar 700 (5 minutes)
Innocent:
Seafire/Spitfire
J3Cub
Hawker Hurricane
Piper Commanche
A4 Skyhawk (doesn't appear to work ATM, though - config needs
updating. Unless I'm trying the wrong version)
That's just what I've tried lately. I first got this lock up with the
particularly delicious Bf109, but I've since tried those other three
with the same result.I thought at first it was RAM problems, with swap
space needing to be engaged, but I'm still getting the same problems
with graphics options turned off, and with an extra 1GB RAM. It is
possible that I would get lockups with any aircraft eventually, I just
haven't flown for long enough at a stretch.
Any suggestions welcome.
