I too found the learning curve for Blender intimidating. But since I'm a pretty
sure hand at using Wings3d I had even less incentive for learning _another_
modelling app. At the moment I model in Wings and use Blender to convert an
exported *.obj file to *.ac. Both Wings and Blender are free and Free so
there's no cost involved. The learning curve of Wings is very, very low (but
don't underestimate it!). But some hand editing of of the Blender exported *.ac
file is required to get the correct texture and smoothing data. So, I'm working
on a Ruby script to go directly from *.obj to *.ac in order to bypass Blender
entirely. I need to work a bit more on the script on getting the UV coordinates
correct but it's getting close.
