Agree 100%

X-Plane has an inbulit modeler: Planemaker. Me and a friend had a play
around with it and within a hour or so we'd made a couple simple planes.
Admittedly, they didn't fly very well, but the fact that they could be
in the simulator right then and their was a good thing. I believe xplane
has a Scenery maker or something along those lines as well.

It's hard to install scenery on X-Plane in linux, let alone make any. I
wouldn't have a clue where to start to make a plane. If someone can
point me to a tutorial on how to make a plane for FG, I'll be very happy.

Their are a few excellent planes in FG: notably the Sencall, the
Citation Bravo and the B1900D: the Sencall is one of my faves, by far
the best model I've used in X-Plane and up their with some of them from
the 'big boys'. But I have no idea how to do something like this.

I don't believe that creating aircraft/scenery is ever going to be
anything that Joe Average will do - simply because Joe Average won't use
        FlightGear - he'll use MSFS

Why should't FG be for 'Joe Average'? Their may be reasons Joe Average
runs FG and not MSFS. I didn't have a PC with windows to handle MSFS,
so I got FG.

I was Joe Average. I like FG, I want to contribute. I'm not a coder, so
making a plane model or scenery springs to mind? Once again, a tutorial
on how to make planes would be good. Easy-to-use tools would be good.
I'm happy to spend a hour or so a week making a plane. But I would
prefer not to spend ages bumbling around.

I cite X-Plane: I doubt you could say it is for 'Joe Average', but it
has easy-ish to use planemaker etc. And there are masses of stuff for
X-Plane.

What I would like to see in FG:

- A GUI installed by default with the linux version

-Easy way of installing more scenery and planes. From within the above
mentioned GUI if possible.

-A guide to making planes and scenery for FG. Maybe even a blender
plug-in or something of the like for FG.

Thats fine for some. People like yourself, with the patience and grey
matter to get to grips with such tasks I might add are a rare breed.
Because the numbers of such people are thin on the ground consequently
the amount of new scenery and planes will be correspondingly small.

Me? I'm a go-getter person, and dead keen to contribute as much as I
can to the project, but patience and intelligence are not virtues I
consider myself to have in bulk... :-)

Maybe a bit harsh on yourself Chris: I hardly think you lack
intelligence. But I agree with you. Those of us with school/work simply
don't have time make planes/scenery the current way. Maybe during the
holidays I'll try to learn...but I feel pessimistic about if I can do it
all the same.

Kudos to those who contribute to FlightGear: I really, really, /really/
appreciate your work. Really. I just want it to be easier to help.
Imagine if it was easier to make models and scenery for FG. We'd have a
much more interesting sim. Please help us help you

PS: my observation are based on the current (not cvs) releases of FG.
