It's certainly easier to be a user than a developer. Documentation
exists for the user, but IMHO, the 1.1.x code that I've ever looked at
is rather terse, for want of a better word. So you really need to invest
time to be able to work with it.

Also, I wonder how many potential developers (i.e. users) are fluent
in the low-level gubbins within X11 *and* Windows *and* Mac. I'm not.
