As it happens i've had difficulty building ftgl (on win xp with mingw/msys) and 
so given this, and that this glorious 3d physically responsive sentient text 
editor idea was first conceived of as a (supposedly relatively easy) side 
project anyway, i might rest it for a while.  I had successfully built the 
freetype dependancy btw.  My main AI-ish project is much funkier anyway.

If someone's got a ready method for building ftgl then i'd be happy to hear it 
otherwise i don't want to open a thread on it here.  (My problem was it 
couldn't locate my gl libs despite liberally scattering copies of them 
everywhere i thought ./configure might look while also trying the --gl-lib= 
option, with variations.)
