"Beuys' big legacy to contemporary art is a dark one, one that is
barely mentioned in the DMA's show. For Beuys was a harbinger
not only of harmless, boring installation art but of the Artist as
self-promoting celebrity. A regular Houdini of hype, Beuys
carefully staged and photographed his events, exercising an
extraordinary degree of image control, illuminating the way for
many an overrated art star to come. Why spend a lifetime
laboring to master a craft when creating a media event, a la
Beuys, was a far surer way to success? "

Good grief - this woman surely has a gun rack in her truck, and bullets for brains.  I'm afraid this work is way too deep for even the shallowist dive on her part.  Beuys was trained as a bioligist, studied botany and zoology before turning to art, was a brilliant lecturer and teacher at the Academy in Dusseldorf.  A Beuys quote "Now I want to go through nature and gather all materials into an Encyclopedia...all of the sciences...and include physics, minerology, astronomy...but also language, music, poetry.  And what are your leavings and aspirations, Christine?  I'm not sure she realizes that the works she condemns were not undertaken for mass production, but were signals resulting from Beuys "actions."  Made to ponder and inspire a a new understanding rather than a jaded belief.

I think this to be a more relevant review that she should papier mache herself with:
