I changed to my personal address so that some previous opinions would be
considered my own and not those of my employer.

I'm employed by Intel. Note the words. I do NOT "work for Intel". I work FOR
myself. I was the Intel representative to the SATA WG from the mobile
organization. So what? If I wanted to hide I would use a fake name from
Yahoo or something. My posts are my own and do not reflect the positions or
opinions of my employer.

That out of the way, I was privileged to be associated with the SATA WG
almost from the beginning. The people involved had one "primary directive,"
to create a serial extension of the ATA/ATAPI interface that was SW
compatible with the PATA interface and that could "live" for the anticipated
next 10-15 years. No tricks. No secret agendas. I think we did a good job.
We even put in power management that made the interface good for mobile
systems and, synergistically, enabled hot plugging.

Why have a group of limited membership? An old saying is that a camel is a
horse designed by committee. Another is that a committee is the only known
form of life with multiple stomachs and no brains. The reality behind this
is that, if you want to get something done in a group, any group, you have
to limit the size to one that is manageable. We all know this. It's reality.
Live with it.

I ask again. Please read the spec. If you find something wrong, if something
violates the "prime directive", bring it up. Contacts are listed on
www.serialata.org. If inputs are valid, attention will be paid.

BTW. It is [EMAIL PROTECTED] $
