Hi nepbabu,
I am sorry, but I have serious disagreements with what you have to
say.

I am from outside Kathmandu valley. I think I am doing all I can to
contribute in the discussion.

What I find more annoying is everything in Nepal being Kathmandu
centric. Most people outside Kathmandu who are fascinated by free
software and its powers, in all probability haven't yet heard a word
about FOSS-Nepal or anything of that sorts. Like everything else, the
free software movement in Nepal hasn't moved beyond the valley of
Kathmandu. I dont see any reasons for FKK to be organised only in
schools/colleges in Kathmandu. Maybe it is relatively easy and hassle
free, but if this is because of working policy, FOSS-Nepal should have
been named FOSS-Kathmandu. No offence intended.
I have seen many students and hobbyists wanting to attend CAN Infotech
but being unable because of several reasons. A report on the usage of
FOSS includes schools only inside Kathmandu. I understand the
limitations facing them, and with due appreciation of their work, I
would like to add that any such works hardly represent the reality in
the context of the whole country.

The whole administration and political planning in Nepal has been
Kathmandu-centric since as long as I can remember. I have read and
heard, it has been that way for all of Nepal's history. If free
software movement in Nepal chooses to go that way, history will repeat
again. Instead of being annoyed, it would be worthwhile to know that
internet connectivity and speed outside Kathmandu valley is not at
par. Downloading whole distributions used to be pure fantasy during my
school days. I dont think its much different these days too. While
talks of Freedom Toaster was doing rounds in this mailing list, I felt
like suggesting to reach outside the valley. But then, the real
problem is, "outside Kathmandu valley" doesnt refer to one place.
"Inside" does.
It is a huge responsibility, but if free software movement in Nepal is
to succeed, it has to reach out of Kathmandu first. Celebration of
success inside Kathmandu is myopic and fatal.

It has to be admitted though, interested and active folks from outside
kathmandu, untimately have to come to Kathmandu either for studies or
work. I believe there are already such people in this list and outside
who are active in FOSS movement and awareness. I am looking forward to
their replies to this thread.

I think I tried to sum up some of those voices.
Cheers !
