Wow. this is turning out to be quite a long and interesting thread. I have
come across a lot of people from outside the valley who are perhaps more
familiar with the ground realities of Nepal than most of us and are really
enthusiastic in getting technologies there yet suffering from the same
legacy attitude that we have been discussing here for the simple reason that
most people just don't know FOSS in those areas. Whatever we say, there are
still very few people (ok compared to more active groups) regularly
participating in mailing list discussions even those from KTM and from the
more technologically aware group; it's unlikely that people elsewhere will
spontaneously be motivated to come here and discuss.

homogeniety is unachievable all over nepal in a similar fashion that New
York is always the hub of new things even though US is so advanced.. so we
need to focus on getting people involved.. because a single minded ambition
for homogeneity will rather hamper growth in the long run. If we can draw up
a line over what we want to achieve beyond KTM, it can be more practical.
We, at kathmandu want to be on the very cutting edge but the same can't be
said true for a person in a rural village (heck most of them don't even have
basic technological pre-requisite in place)

yeah.. point taken. yet the thing is in most places (where people are
really motivated in these things) FOSS is still an unknown topic. We don't
need to focus on villages just yet. A lot of "NGOs" are doing that for
years.. and it doesn't seem to have succeeded that much (so IMO.. the
approach has failed.. we need a new one).. just look at FOSS enthusiasts
from places like pokhara who don't get decent distros that easy... or have a
discussion platform like this.. or monthly FKK.. even a documentation can do
a lot good for fellow fossians there and perhaps bring in more interaction.

2. Gmail/G-group doesnt open in many cyber outside ktm due to very low

YEAH... I can't assert it more enough. Even a year ago, I was using a
19.2Kbps internet at home (hail the glorious lynx) and suffered this
quite bad.

3. Many people dont know that such community/mailing list is there and

yeah... I didn't get the last sentence..

4.All the foss activity focused inside kathmandu .

Yeah.. as I said before.. don't do what everyone's doing for years because
if it was the right way, we'd not be having this discussion about disparity
in involvement...
