Dear All,
Recently we have seen lots of *FOSS Communities* in different parts of
Nepal. It feels really great to see them.
But, I am not satisfied with two things about the communities. Just
expressing my views, so feel free to disagree with it, but with proper
reasons.
1.
THe namings of the communities are kind of wrong.
For eg. There is a place called *XYZ*, and a FOSS Community starts in
that place and the community is named *FOSS XYZ*.
Instead of naming it *FOSS XYZ* why not name it *FOSS Nepal, XYZ*??
There are lots of reasons for this statement. I can explain them later
if required, but one of the reasons anyone will understand is, we who live
inside Kathmandu haven't named it *FOSS Kathmandu* till now, we go with
the name of *FOSS Nepal* because we believe in Unity.
2.
Improper edit of FOSS Nepal Logo.
Same as the previous one.
I have seen the *Original FOSS Nepal* logo been edited, replacing *Nepal*
in the logo with the name of the place of that community.
I am not sure if there is proper guideline for use of FOSS Nepal Logo,
but it sure violates some of the aspects.
- Nepal (A country) has been replaced with certain place. (bleh)
- Usage of non-matching fonts.
- Using the Logo with truncation (The rightmost part has been truncated
in that certain leaflet or brochure or whatever it was. I don't want to
attach it in this email right now, but can if needed)
I am pretty sure I will get some replies that says, it's an open source
community, the logo is of Free and Open Source, but that doesn't mean one
can do whatever he likes with it. Logos and Names are of great values. A
person as a sensible member should not support misuse of both.
I want to bring those two issues to the community.
May logical answers prevail.
