The Middlesex County Mosquito Control monitors mosquito species in Framingham and has been doing so for years. I did have one of their 'catch' sites beside my yard up until two years ago. They can provide documented information about the species found in each area of town and which species might carry WNV and whether Framingham actually has an active population of that species. Yes this is an exempted activity under the MA Wetlands Protection Act (MA WPA) - but it usually has the Board of Health blessing. The county can actually investigate whether the request for mosquito control is real or a bogus way to circumvent MA WPA and then decide whether to spray and/or dredge an area. I did stop a spraying within a nearby bog because I informed those about to spray that certifiable vernal pool habitats were located within the bog. Peace, Leslee Willitts

There is more to this issue than the surface would indicate and their has been a little hysteria in both camps. The attached links will help us get to the real scoop and come to a sensible decision on this. While the Anti-chemical position is absurd by definition, it does appear that we are overreacting to West Nile Virus. More people have drowned in their own swimming pools this year than have succumbed to WNV in the previous five. Please see the two attached links and the letter that follows.
