After 4 hours on the phone today with support, Adobe was able to resolve the issues that prevented me from working on my desktop, in Windows Explorer, or in non-adobe programs; however, Adobe themselves threw the kitchen sink at my system and still can't get the suite to completely uninstall, so I still have no adobe capabilities whatsoever, including FM 7.2 as during its installation, Distiller won't install because somewhere hidden deep beneath the shadows lurks distiller 9 (or so my system thinks). At one point during the support call, I was told literally that it was no longer Adobe's problem and that I had to call Microsoft - I think anyone at this point can imagine my immediate and visceral response to this comment.
They backed off of that and have escalated the issue to Tier 2 and I have received a phone call just 10 minutes ago assuring me that I would be called within the hour. tick-tock, tick-tock. . . I did receive the note that everyone saw from Mahesh, but the first step makes me very, very nervous and it is a bit unclear to me. It states that I must roll back my system clock to a date when the beta key was working. Say what? First, how do I roll back a system clock and since this is a >>SYSTEM<< function, of course it makes me shudder - I have not enough system issues with this as it is. I don't want to go down that rabbit hole again. Second, "when the beta key was working?" Any and all thoughts and clarifications on this first step are welcomed and appreciated. Captivate, Photoshop, and Acrobat 9 were working and functioning as expected and everything else on my desktop was working just fine. I still was receiving the error message about the licensing issue for FM and RH. I called Adobe Support this morning and after having practically to call through the phone to get some help (the holding times accounted for 1/2 the time I was on the phone easily and at least 4 xfers), two technicians together (one supposedly Sr.) began taking me down the rabbit hole again. After patiently walking through everything with them and working diligently to follow their instructions, Adobe has now F____D up my system so badly that I can't even use FM7.2 on my system (it won't install distiller as I am getting that famous message that I already have a version in place, but that's because Adobe techs. could not figure out how to completely get all of the Adobe files of off my system and somewhere, my system thinks I still have distiller 9 installed) and no joke, I can't even right-click on my own desktop now (to switch slave and master monitors) without getting an Adobe specific error message. Their solution - "we will research this and call you back - we don't know when, but. .. so, they F___K up system beyond use (believe, everything other than FM and RH was working until I followed all of the techs' instructions) and leave me hanging and the best that they can do is "call be back sometime?" So, I wonder if I start calling numbers randomly at Adobe corporate someone will wake up to this and recognize this issue - ha! and pigs have wings. FM9 and RH9 give me that infamous AMT licensing subsystem failed problem. I have DONE EVERYTHING as per Adobe's website/KB - flex manager services restart, license recovery download, deleting the cache, and nothing -and many of you emailed many, many helpful solutions and links and I so appreciate that - Thank you!!!! RIGHT SMACK IN THE MIDDLE OF SUPPORT (AFTER 30 MIN) OF WAITING, I GET XFERRED AND DISCONNECTED DURING THE XFER AND SINCE IT'S AFTER ADOBE SUPPORT HOURS, NEED I SAY MORE? I will say this - ADOBE SUPPORT SUCKS!!! and as much as I love FM, etc., all of the techs (save one - the one who was helping right as I got disconnected) were barely understandable and one was downright rude. And after long, interminable holds, all they could do was parrot back my problem to me and suggest everything that I had already tried. How's that for help? NOT!!! Now, after wasting damn near a whole day on this, I get to start all friggin' over again - on hold, getting transferred. God help me, if I had another choice that was economically feasible for me at this point, I would so go there but OLH like NOW was a must for several clients and WWP is not feasible and RH8 was the version available for me now - I had no other older versions of RH in my stash! And FWIW, if you google this problem, it's all over the boards - and the problem starts for no apparently consistent reason. Back to square one tomorrow.
