Mike Snow's "Rameau's Nephew by Diderot (Thanx to Dennis Young) by Wilma Schoen" is perhaps the most comprehensive study of the relationship between image and recorded sound. It runs 4-1/4 hours and took three years to make. We published a large book about the film based on interviews witih Mike, with details on each section and notes and sketches from the production (Re:Voir)
