No. JEMM386 is the successor of free EMM386 which is the successor of some EMS / UMB / VDS or similar thing of c't. What I mean is that you have to decide whether to use the classic JEMM386 HIMEMX pair (which allows you to decide if you want to load JEMM386 at boot, skipping it if you want to run non VCPI compatible ancient software) or to load the alternative JEMMEX variant which saves a bit more DOS RAM but can only be loaded in one piece... As mentioned on the list recently, any EMM also puts a virtual/vm86 layer between you and your hardware, which can be good for cases where you want to create virtual hardware (SB16, 8042...) but can be bad if you want to do fast lowlevel I/O access.
