OFDMA (not OFDM) is used as an access mode in LTE in combination with
TDM. I'm toying with the idea for a while now, but with 5-6 hours a
week available I haven't made much progress lately. Regarding 4FSK,
personally I see no advantage over 2FSK. It's certainly more
complicated to get working.
OK Cool - OFDMA is new to me - I'll read up on it.
There are carefully tested Octave and C 4FSK modems that meet
theoretical performance in codec2-dev that you can use as a reference.
With open source, implementation complexity isn't a huge issue - someone
only has to build it once. mFSK isn't that much harder than 2FSK, and
certainly easier than a PSK modem.
4FSK is about 3dB better than 2FSK with no increase in bandwidth. So
you get the same performance as 2FSK for half the tx power. Pretty cool.
