Thanks for the response. Yes the file previews ok on screen and will print to a desktop printer fine. It is only in the ripping stage that the problem happenes. We have tried the file through both a Creo and Harlequin rip with
the same result which baffles me further.

Unless you are using the "Suppress static PDF background in composition," you will see the PDF background and it should print. I suspect there is something wrong with the background PDF objects. Maybe the are corrupt or not friendly to the RIP. Possibly there is a transparency issue. The way the RIP reads PDF is very different than when a PDF is printed to a desktop printer. In FusionPro, background PDF objects simply get passed through to FusionPro when composing PDF.

A couple of things to try:

Try using the Save As feature in Acrobat. This will resave and possible re-write the background PDF objects in a way more friendly to these RIPs. Recompose to PDF and try again on the RIP.

Next, try using a different output format like PPML or VPS, for example. Lastly, make the static background a variable element that comes in all the time. Because this is happening on two different RIP, it is less likely to be a problem with a specific one.

Although, I would not rule out that this is a issue on both RIPs-- they may have common ancestries despite that they come from different manufactures. You can try sending them the file and see what they say.

If the problem persists, collect the template and the output and send it to FusionPro support so they can file the issue. Do not expect them to get back to you right away. In fact, I expect with something strange like that we will not be able to reproduce in our lab. We will have to file this with other cases and see if a pattern emerges.

Good luck,

Brian Ray
