I'm not as old a fart but I am 62 and in my thirties I had a time of when we
went to parties and smoked a bit. I also drank but I found that serious
artistic work made my senses higher than chemicals and I wasn't anesthetized
in the process. I stopped all chemicals except for illness and have never
been sorry although I did enjoy a beer occasionaly. Each person has to
choose their own way but I have found various exercises to be much more able
to stimulate endorphins and to open my perceptions including taste,
sexuality and especially music. The mind is the greatest aphrodisiac and
discipline is the door. Chemicals are a pale substitute in my experience.
But you have to be willing to practice and learn.
