Chris is quite right. My not so subtle analogies were meant to express
my contempt for Chris's mindless 'predator' mantra. To the extent that
it is true (and there is a kernel of truth to even the most bizarre of
fixations) it it trivial. To the extent that it is not trivial it is
nonsense.

As for not addressing Chris's "critique" of Marx. That was no
critique; just name calling. "Marx was a predator." You mean he was a
reptilian alien? Or that he feasted on human flesh? "Marx was a
technological illiterate."? That's like saying Issac Newton was a
physics illiterate because he didn't comprehend quantum mechanics or
the theory of relativity. How does one address an ignorant and
anachronistic assertion other than to point out that it is nonsense.

And let's not defame Thorstein Veblen's good name by pretending this
predator nonsense has anything to do with Veblen's analysis. Veblen
has a sophisticated analysis of the pecuniary motive and its
distinction from the economic myth embodied in Adam Smith's invisible
hand. Chris's predator mantra is an ineffectual caricature. I am
reminded of bearded radicals in the sixties, who had read no further
than the first page of the Communist Manifesto, peremptorily
dismissing anything they disagreed with as "bourgeois ideology" and
pretending their authority for that proclamation came directly from
Marx.

I apologize to the rest of the FW list for feeding the troll and will
henceforth cease and desist. I would urge others to do the same.
