According to my notes, the last OS 9 codec I used that could play at a decent frame rate was from 2003, called "DivX 5.0 Alpha 3". As I recall, it's frame rate was about 1/3 that of other formats but still better than uber slow-mo. >Do you know if a ram bump would help video at all in 10.4? >-- ie: reduce the impact of virtual memory issues: if there would be > >Do you know if having the video playing off a 2nd drive or the dvd >might help? >-- ie: no conflicts with the OS coming off the same physical drive the >file is playing off of? Neither will help. The problem is raw CPU speed. Because of the advanced compressions etc, the newer DivX formats require more cpu power to produce usable frames. The new codecs compound that by being poorly implemented -- why bother to select better algorithms when you're targeting only fast processors. - Dan. -- - Psychoceramic Emeritus; South Jersey, USA, Earth --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to Low End Mac's G-Books list, a group for those using G3 iBooks and PowerBooks (we run a separate list for G4 'Books).
