The software in question that I have tried is intended to be 10.4 or
higher. I'm only passing on what I have read, but my (probably
imperfect) understanding is that apparently the version of XCode
supplied with Snow Leopard builds applications that are G4, G5 and Intel
compatible, but have left G3s behind (unless there is some option to
include G3s). Some applications are being updated with the (hopefully)
unintended consequence of loss of support for G3 machines. My guess is
that this issue is poorly understood by developers at the moment, and
there will be an adjustment period before they start specifying 'Mac OS
10.4 and up with a G4 or later processor'.

OTOH - I have also seen at least one application claiming to have been
updated to be compatible with 10.6 while retaining 10.4 compatibility
that seems to run with no problems on my Pismo.

Which brings me back to my original thought - make sure that you have a
copy of the old version before overwriting it with an update that claims
to have added compatibility with 10.6.
