This is a follow up message. Couldn't find my original query from a
month or two ago. Wanted to let you all know the outcome - and to make
a big public thank you to John Carmonne for going above and beyond and
babysitting me through the process of getting Tiger running on my
Pismo.

John might chime in and fill in details since I'm sort of
technologically lacking - but essentially all I had to do was make a
clean install of OS 9, make sure all the Apple firmware updates were
already installed (they were already in my case), then install Tiger
via the regular Apple installer disks. The only hitch came in trying
to use the machine before getting every last one of Apples updates.
Those are critical. When I had only installed half of them (I think
there were 9 - can't remember exactly) my computer stopped recognizing
the trackpad and various other non-nice suprises. That freaked me out
for a while - but I plugged in a usb mouse, and continued installing
the Apple updates. Once they were complete the system has been running
like a top!

This Pismo has now become a serious working machine for me now.

Prior to this, the installation of Tiger was very buggy. I couldn't
get most of my software to install. It would glitch and freeze often.
The battery was unusable for more than a few minutes even though
battery life showed it shouldn't be dying. When I'd start the system,
for a split second, I used to get a question mark on the screen before
it would really start up. All of this has been solved with a proper
clean install of Tiger. Couldn't be more pleased.

I've now been able to upload Adobe Creative Suite 1 - photoshop, etc.
I use Sea Monkey as my browser and mail client of choice. I can
develop web pages using Kompozer and TextWrangler - and upload them
easily. I know the Pismo is only a 500 mhz G3 - but I really don't
think it feel sluggish at all. Sure, it handles Youtube video watching
very slowly, but that isn't important to me. It handles my software
superbly. It surfs the net very well. It let's me travel to free
internet wifi spots and get some work done when it is too crazy at my
home to work effectively. All in all, I could not be more pleased with
having a Pismo. I highly recommend it to anyone who is thinking of
making the plunge. I plan to test out the rest of the Creative Suite
on here shortly - InDesign and Illustrator - so that I can make this a
true back up system to my desk top unit should it ever need to pull
full duty. (Actually, I use the pismo 90% of the time now and the desk
top system is idle.)

Oh - lastly - I waited about a month to post this to make sure
everything was really stable. It is rock solid. John also had me run
Disk Warrior - which I'm finding to be an excellent tool as well.

So thank you, John.
And, to anyone thinking about a Pismo - you'll not regret it - load it
with Tiger the way John recommended to me. :)

Best,
-Lynn
