Forgot to mention - in my case when installing Tiger, I checked the
option for installing X11. X11 is important to running quite a bit of
open source software that I wanted to install. May or may not be
important to you - but thought I better mention it.

Also - the keyboard on a Pismo makes me equally as happy as my long
since gone PB1400. I type enormous quantities of text every single
day.
