Whilst DivX and h.264 are video codecs based on the MPEG-4 standard they are not what consumers mean when they talk about MP4. what most consumers are talking about is MPEG-4 part 14 (aka MP4) container. Remember MP4, AVI, MKV, OGV etc are Video container formats. An MP4 can contain any 1 of a number if codecs, as can any of the others I mention. Indeed, AVI can contain both DivX and h.264. You also get intermediate codecs, designed to aid editing video. So, again - it's not the file format - that can be fixed really easily, usually without re-encoding the data stream. It's the video codec. Not just the video codec too, the audio codec can be important. Perfectly possible to get files where you can play back either the video or the audio but not the other part, because of the codecs being used. -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Books, a group for those using G3 iBooks and PowerBooks (we run a separate list for G4 'Books).
