I agree with Bruce, if restarting the modem fixed the issue, the problem lies with the modem. I've seen these DSL modems overheat and fail, so I suspect you probably need a new modem. Sometimes there are firmware updates for specific models of modems that might possibly help, but this is very unlikely. I'd bet the modem is really hot when it stops working, and when you unplug it to reset, it cools a little and works again temporarily. I suspect you'll need a new modem.
