Sort of.

Well, Verizon is correct, but also wrong. Most DSL and Cable "modems" will
connect to the first host they "see" after being reset. Afterwards that is the
only host they'll communicate with.

Unless Verizon is doing stupid things to prevent people from using more than
one computer, you setup should work, but here's the deal:

You reset the modem and everything worked, for ten minutes. Then you had a
problem.

This is the definitive diagnostic. Your DSL modem is failing.

If Verizon insists that you can only connect one computer at a time, (which I
find surprising, given that they offer wireless DSL modems and such) find
another provider.

ALso instead of tying up the G4 just to get the Pismo online, get something
like this

<http://tinyurl.com/9ljlt6x>

Reset the DSL modem, plug it into the Netgear, plug your G4 into one of the
ethernet ports and connect your Pismo to it wirelessly.

This is the EXACT setup I have at home and it works without a hitch...except
when my cable router started dying. Then I had things happen like you did.
Fortunately I have an ISP (Cox) who is great about this stuff, I walked into
their store, handed over the cable modem, told 'em it was dead, they gave me a
new one.
