Apple offered the replacement service two weeks before the domain name "ipodsdirtylittlesecret" was even registered, that was the domain of the people who ran the advertising campaign. That site also was connected to encouraging inflammatory vandalism of Apple ad physical space such as store signs and billboards.
Nearly six other vendors also offer a similar battery replacement service. Prices vary from $60-100.
Lithium Ion batteries only last 18-24 months on average use whether it be a PowerBook battery, iPod battery, or Sony Viao battery, that is just how the battery works. Some last longer, depends on use, conditions, all sorts of stuff, some also last shorter.
I find it funny in a very sick way that Apple customers are talking about suing Apple when every laptop available uses the same technology and Dell uses the same technology in their music player ... no one is complaining about those instances ...
