Okay, so please don't tell me the obvious, because it is painfully so,
but....

I have an external FW drive that was my backup.  It wasn't redundant
though, so when it went ka-blewie, so did the data that was "backed up"
on there and only existed on there.

Basically, due to a bad power setup in my house, the power wanes and
surges everytime the heater comes on.  (Lesson learned there!)  But now
my FW drive isn't "Recognized by this Macintosh" and wants to be
initialized.  

Now if I do this, can I recover some of the stuff that was there?  What
can I do to increase my chances?
