So true. My limited exposure to the puck mouse dissuaded me from even
test-driving it on my new machine. Thankfully, I am able to use my old
Kensington trackball in the ADB port. Unfortunately, I sold my old keyboard
along with my old computer, so I'll just have to make due with the tiny
keyboard until another AppleDesign keyboard comes my way.

Wow, is it really that cheap? It certainly wasn't for my old 8500. I guess
I'll just get some new RAM. Thanks for the tip about testing the speed on a
G4. My only G4-blessed friend is out of town for an extended period,
however. Do you happen to know of any software that could accomplish the
same trick on my computer?

Sorry. I should have been more specific. They're both IDE, and both just
received a clean bill of health from Norton and TechTool. Maybe the problem
experienced by the previous owner stemmed completely from the RAM after all.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm trying to do, and I actually got it to work
shortly after I sent off the email. I understand your concerns about
allowing two extensions to manage one device, but this setup allows me to do
things like what I'm doing now: watching a DVD whilst converting the
contents of an audio CD to aiff. Of course, I would never attempt to burn a
CD with this setup. Given that I can't seem to use Toast Titanium (and
therefore do other work on the computer whilst burning), I imagine that I'll
be burning under a pretty reduced extension set anyway, so I should be safe.

Thanks for all your help, and your very quick response.

Mitch.
