I have the same computer that you do. I have been doing church newsletters for several years. Ram is very easy to install. There are plenty of cheap scanners out there because a lot of people are just using them for scanning at screen rez and sending email. For a nice newsletter you don't want one of those. You really don't have to buy a big size, splicing scans together is not that hard with Photoshop. A bed size of 8.5x14 is OK. When buying, look at the bit size...42bit is excellent. If you can afford it, get the transparency option. You can get a 11x17 BW printer for $800 - $1400 or so brand new. I have plenty of ads on them in my printer mags. Best to get postscript, most of them have ethernet. Printing with AppleTalk is Sloooow. I also have a very good Yamaha CD burner. To read as well as burn, get CD/RW. External SCSI is probably the best way to go. The burner that you buy will most likely be faster than the one on the G3. I can supply the specs and prices on printers and scanners if you are interested. I just need to dig up the mags and ads to check.
