Hi Everyone,

I am faced with a bit of a dilemma which I can't resolve.

I currently have a beige G3 266Mhz MT. The only thing I have changed to this
point is I have added a Firewire/USB 2.0 PCI card. This is the original
computer with 64MB RAM. Only a 4GB hard drive (yes, I know this isn't
standard but this is what Mac Zones shipped to me and other than ship it
back I kept it). I plan on maxxing the RAM to 768MB in a few weeks.

I am using System 8.6. Zip disks have become too limiting for backup.
Especially as we add more and more graphic files. I need a larger hard drive
and I also think I need the security of backup separate from the computer.
I've considered a refurbished Apple DVD-RAM drives (too slow?, not easy to
come by disks), CD-RW (good for backup but doesn't solve my storage
problems, and the cheap ones don't come with burning sw), and just a larger
hard drive as a slave to the current one (possibility of computer going down
and having to find another Mac to hook up to). If I add a Maxtor Ultra
ATA/133 80GB will I have to add an ATA PCI card to use it?

What do you folks think is a good combination of security/reliability/size?
And, of course, I need to keep this as cheap as possible. Though a sub-$200
rewritable DVD drive might tempt me.

Anybody with 2 cents (or more)?

Thanks,
Gregory
