i don't throw it out periodically, but it is one of the first things to try when things start not working. the system constantly updates/rewrites it during normal functioning and it eventually gets corrupted and causes odd problems. on a large network where students might not report odd behavior or the administrator might not hear about the odd problems it wouldn't hurt, as i said it is regenerated if missing on restart.
