The Amherst, NY, CompUSA also has "Apple" help for scheduled hours in the Apple section on a daily basis. They wear Apple logo shirts and are also supposed to help people with their Apple purchases.
I became suspicious when there was usually no Apple rep visible anywhere near the small Apple section of the huge store. On more than one occasion I finally found the Apple-shirted rep in another area helping people with Windows pc's and laptops, along with other obviously non-Apple merchandise. Once I followed an Apple-shirted rep for twenty minutes as he discussed a Mac purchase that a customer had trouble with (probably could not find the DOS prompt). He told that customer that Mac's were not reliable computers and escorted her to the pc section to find a nice, dull Windows box to trade her new Mac for. I later made the acquaintance of a manager there and was told that the "Apple rep" is a CompUSA employee (at least at this store) and not an Apple employee. I suspect they receive money from Apple for this designated employee wearing an Apple shirt. They get the added bonus of the presumed Apple rep dissing the Macs as inferior and recommending cheap pc's instead. So much for the State of the Mac in Western New York.
