Hi, I just got an iMac (purple 400mhz with 8mb rage 128 video) that my brother's friend is trying to sell. He found it in he late grandfather's office and doesn't know what to do with it...he also doesn't know the ins and outs of ebay and such so he asked me to install all the latest software on it and see how much I could get.
One problem: I started it up and a password was required (OS 9) so I figured I'd just boot it in firewire target mode and format it from my G4. No go. Nothing happend. I tried it repeatedly holding down the "T" key while starting up. Then I tried to boot from a cd. This worked only after two attempts. THEN when I finally got it to boot from an OS 9 cd I wiped the HD, popped in my OS X cd and started the installation. I went in the other room and when I came back it was off. Not sleeping...but off. I pressed the power button and the green power button light came on and nothing happened. So I unplugged it, and reset the PRAM 11 times. It didn't start up. just turned off after the little light went on for a few seconds and I heard a few little hard drive crackle sounds. This keeps on happening. It looks like it's turning on...nothing happens on the monitor...and then it turned off. I've tried swapping out the two ram sticks in it (two 64MB sticks) to no avail. It won't even get up to the point of zapping the PRAM or booting from a CD. Anything?? thanks, the truly baffled and somewhat hopeful, Justin -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
