Matt,

My Beige (with 768MB RAM) used to take a full minute between the
startup chime and the beginning of loading of OS 9 (during which time
the monitor would cycle between "active" and "powersave" twice).
Turning the initial memory test off (option and command pressed while
launching the Memory control panel) did not shorten the pause, not
until I had zapped the PRAM. So perhaps doing *both* at the same
time might help?

If that doesn't work, then perhaps the hard drive hasn't gotten up to
full speed like it used to. I have a PowerMac 7500 in which I've
installed a 7200 rpm drive (the original was a 5400 rpm Quantum).
That one takes several seconds before the hard drive is recognized as
the startup disk. I even get the icon with the flashing question
mark for a second or two...

Hope this helps,
Gene
