Tim,

I haven't noticed any of my applications running slower as I upgraded to 
later Windows OS's. I think the reason the PC side is so stable is simply 
that MS doesn't produce hardware (processors). Dell, Compaq, et al must 
reconcile their off the shelf components with the conservative bent of their 
business trade. Apple has no such base, steeped in classic software.
