(By the way, I'm a different Tim)
I think most of us on this list agree that the one single reason why 
the PC is so UNSTABLE is that one operating system is written to handle 
all of the minor differences in all of the multitude of PC 
manufacturers.  Having to be able to support quirk A from Compaq and 
quirk B from Dell and quirk C from Gateway doesn't lend itself to 
stability.  I repeat....BSOD, BSOD, BSOD!
