Ray,
you can only use dedicated sound cards in there. It is not a normal PCI slot
nor a NUBUS... it is whatsoever.
If you are only interested for sound there is the whisper card. If you
instead want to have AV capabilities then you can go for the personality
card. Check ebay
Among the other connectors on the card there is one COMM II slot. There you
can put an internal modem (also a special one, not easy to find). The black
big thing is for the monitor of the AllInOne G3.
None hardware has been developed for the other slots.
And yes, sometimes the sound cards go bad. But you can try to pull it out
and put it in again... maybe it is not well mounted.
I don't think that it is the battery, in my opinion, you can save the 10$.
If the battery needs to be changed, then every time you start up the clock
resets to 1970 or something like that.
