Unfortunately, in the end, after all this, my Apple 48x CD rom will not mount anymore. It did mount in the beginning. It started when I hit the cuda button and zapped the pram around 8 times the last time. I've disconnected the IDE cable and started up without it which worked in the past but nothing seems to be able to get it to mount CD's. It does show up in the Apple profile but it says it doesn't have a mounted volume when a CD is in there. I attached this 12x scsi CD rom which works and my CD burner is now works as well. I even attached this older PC ide 8x cd rom which mounted CD's and surpringly was able to actually boot OS 9 off off of it. So it's a mystery why this Apple IDE CD rom will not mount CD's. After that surge, it has been hell trying to get my Beige G3 DT back in working order. It's amazing what havoc, a surge can bring. After patiently reseating everything, it seemed that reseating the sound card gave me back my bong and sounds. There were some battery issues as well, even though the older batteries I have, tested at 3.6 because putting another battery in also aided in bring back the sound. (I have a friend who also has the same G3 DT I have and we were swapping parts). Because the Bong and sound worked one time, then it wouldn't work again. So I decided to just buy a brand new battery, rather than dealing with that aspect. I did have alot of other issues like constant freezing but by only working on my other Hard drives one by one, I was able to finally restore them. I thought maybe I had some bad RAM or something else happened but when I put another HD and intalled a fresh OS 9.1 and used my older 2x 32mb RAM, I didn't have as many problems. I just put in my 256mb RAM and everything seems ok now. Actually, Disk Warrior came through for me this time where Tech Tool pro 3 and Norton 6 wouldn't. I was able to restore my 40 gig maxtor and 20 gig scsi seagate but only one by one, trying to isolate the problems.
