Not really. The 2930 (and, perhaps, the 2906) was sold by Apple as an OEM card in G3s and G4s (and may still be). It is and was a cheaper and lower end card than the 2940. I am convinced the reasons Adaptec chose not to support it under OS X were technical, not financial.
I've used IBM OS/2 on PCs for 11 years and have read OS/2-related usenet groups for about that long. For 4 or 5 years, I also read a SCSI-related usenet group. The 2940 was consistently reviled (and occasionally, defended) in those discussions for serious problems including data transfer corruption. I won't pretend to understand (or remember) enough about the issues to summarize what was said, but the negative reports were frequent and strong enough to dissuade me from buying one, as I'd originally intended to do. I think, under the circumstances, that Adaptec was correct to retire this card and withdraw support, although I also think they should offer a decent 'trade-up' deal, similar to what ATI has done with their unsupported cards.
