My 56k v.90 is quick and loads pages efficiently. And it sure beat the original internal Global Village modem that came with my B&W G3/350 (OS 8.6, 448MB, 60GB, rev.2) -- that thing was slow as molasses & died after 6 months.<
Reply: My experience differs, but I don't know what you mean by "slow as molasses here." Modems are frustratingly slow by today's standards. When pages don't load I for one can't apportion blame to the site, certain servers, traffic or my browser (NS 4n). My GVI modems through the 1990's until today report connection speeds near spec. Currently I'm seeing 48.0 to 49.333 on GVI's latest v.92 model, which I upgraded to for OS X. Performance was identical on the previous model, v.90, under OS 9, leading me to conclude that the limitation is my copper. Dunno, maybe I should have changed to another brand for better performance but I've never been able to "indict" the modem per se. Perhaps we're just hearing brand loyalty talking. I had a SCSI cable fail but never a modem. Tom Meade Pacific Palisades, CA -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
