G'day from Oz, Rich I don't know the answer to your problem, but I remember reading somewhere (In the PCI Extreme blurb??), that enabling Quartz Extreme with the Radeon Card fixed dropped frames when playing DVD's.
If there's any relationship with that, goodness knows, but enabling it on a 400 mhz iMac disabled Marine Aquarium severely, so I did away with it.
