It turns out that my problems may have been due to a dying IDE bus on my G3 DT. Here's what happened. After a restart, Word was working fine, but then a back up attempt using Silverkeeper resulted in a freeze. Several unsuccesful forced restarts resulted in freezes at various points before reaching the blue screen. Finally, the third startup resulted in a gray screen with question mark floppy. It's been this way since and I have not been able to get anything to work (startup from CD, used a different drive) despite trying several combinations. Just need confirmation that my IDE bus is blown on my beige DT (450MHz G3, 768MB RAM), and that the problems I had been getting had been hardware related. What repair/upgrade options are available to me? I know I can get a new board to replace the blown IDE bus, or get an IDE controller card, but I'm seriously entertaining the notion of replacing the beige with a B&W. I could presumably get a barebones system and just migrate everything over (ZIF, RAM, drives, and video card). Since I'm on a shoestring budget, I'll hear what all of you out there have to say before I decide.
