I also have read this somewhere on an e-mail list but
never heard this as fact. If you use the shorter IDE
cable, it will not reach. I used the longer cable for
another IDE hard drive but didn't use it for a real
long time but it seemed to work OK. I acquired a 20
gig SCSI HD and didn't need the IDE drive.  I now use
it to connect a Master/slave CDROM/CDRW but I have
removed the case to do so. But it works fine and have
not had trouble with it.
