image resolution for printing on an inkjet like the 2200?
there is currently a huge debate amongst some of the subscribers to
http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html mailing list.
some say why would epson have a printer that can print at 1440 or better if they don't
want you to use an image file of the same resolution, others of us are saying anything
over 300 dpi at size is a complete waste.
What do you say?
thanks,

Michael;
These two don't equate the way you would think. 300 dpi to size for your file is
absolutely adequate for your image resolution. More than that is a waste of file size
and will make no difference to your printer. But the 1440 dpi isn't exactly a straight
dot pattern. The overlap and overset just give the image a continuous tone. No matter
how much you magnify a print, you will never see a dot pattern (maybe film
granularity) but no dots. This is way different than the days of yore when you could
see the dot pattern in the print. The 1440 looks richer and smaller tones are more
visible than the old 720. I'm sure that 2880 will be another marked improvement.
Remembver, this is 300 dpi to soze. If you take a 300 dpi 5x7 file and make it 8x10,
you still won't see dots, but you will lose a lot of detail and color fidelity.

I hope this helps.

Paul
