My tired addled brain has either forgotten or simply does not hold these.
What is ADB?
Apple Desktop Bus, used for keyboard/mouse (and a few other peripherals like joysticks and some others) from the advent of the Mac SE to the Beige G3's.
I had a dual purpose card installed when purchased, it is USB/Firewire, or is that firewall?
Firewire.
When the G-4 Zif was installed I was told there were both internal and external USB and Firewall ports. What should be connected internally vs externally?
Internal ports are for connecting internal devices, of which I've not seen many, frankly.
The computer seems to have slowed down quite a bit, and once I get the screen loaded, I cannot get a response for perhaps 30 more seconds to access anything, i.e., Netscape.
What do you mean 'screen loaded'? The desktop? Then look in your Startup items folder to see what's being run, and check to make sure you're not trying to mount an unattached server or time server.
Big culprits are things like virus scanners and disk utilities running checks on startup.
I have the beige DT G-3 upgraded to G-4, maxed out RAM, 3 HD's both OSX and 9.2 loaded although so far I have not tried OSX.
If the slowdown is after the Mac OS splash screen and before the extensions start loading, it's the memory check. Hold down (iirc) command-option while starting the memory control panel to get to the checkbox allowing you to bypass the startup memory check.
Do I need to do something to make sure the Firewall is active?
Not really, if the Firewire extensions are loaded, the only real test is plugging in a firewire device and seeing if it works.
Sorry for the questions, and thank you for not yelling at me. Teresa
Ah, we'll never yell at you!
