Should I be worried? Is the strange monitor cut off a result of my having run the 10.2.8 update tonight?
I think the 10.2.8 update was one of the biggest mistakes from Apple. Since Jaguar came out, all the updates seem to have been real improvements, except the short lived 10.2.5 which was replaced very quickly replaced by 10.2.6.
Actually, it *was* 10.2.8 update that made a huge improvement to my G4 sawtooth system. I will explain why shortly. Anyhow, I applied both updates to my tower and at both times, it went nary with a hiccup. Very smooth and no crashes whatsoever. At first, I was a little apprehensive upgrading to 10.2.8 because I am not running any genuine Mac edition video cards and if I do so, my Asus GeForce 2Mx might not work anymore. Besides, after flashing the Asus with the Mac rom, I was not at all impressed with its video performance with 10.2.6. Using Xbench, OpenGL and QE functions were *LOWER* than my stock ATI Rage 128 Pro! Maybe my stock version of OS X 10.2.6 did not have any native Nvidia drivers installed because, opening and closing windows would be so jerky that I know something isn't working right even though QE was activated. Even my Radeon 7000 PCI performed better (XBench) than the AGP GeForce 2MX, which it should not be (133Mhz bus vs 33Mhz PCI). But then, I went ahead and backed up 10.2.6 and then installed 10.2.8. First reboot, the system was just a rocket. Opening windows was so much FASTER. Xbench reported a whopping 50% increase in general video performance. OpenGL 60% increase!! That's more like it!
My question is this, did 10.2.8 made some improvements to the Nvidia video driver that produced such a gigantic increase in windows and general GUI performance, or my former 10.2.6 just did not have the proper driver to take advantage of my GeForce??
Anyhow, I am a very happy camper with 10.2.8.
