It's a good idea to get a pci ATA card which speeds access to your drive big time. I've had dropped frames and trouble burning DVDs from the drive I still have running on the motherboard ide bus. I am running 4 internal drives on my Beige MT totalling about 300 gigs. What you actually need depends on what you want to do. If you have a bunch of projects open at the same time, you'll need a mess of space. This is much more than you asked, but there's a shareware program in os X called OmniDiskSweeper that will look at all your disks and order the files according to size. I couldn' t believe how many gigabytes of video junk were hidden in my drives...unused captue and render files by the dozens.
