Do you know the reason for the recognition shortage on the 160 GB HD's? Is there a work around for more recognition?
A: The limitation on Hard Disk recognition is founded in the ATA connection. It has nothing to do with the computer. If you put a 160G drive in the G3 you will see 130+GB because that is all the ATA bus can see. If you put a NEW ATA card in the G3, connecting up the drive will give you the whole 160GB (well really about 154GB). That is why many of the 160G Maxtors come with NEW ATA cards with the drive: because when they were first made, NOBODY could see 160GB without the card (that card is PC only, but you can sell it on eBay for $20).
You can also take the 160GB ATA drive and put it into MOST external firewire boxes, and your G3 can see it by way of a firewire card.
