Thanks for the advice Laura. But I have external speakers plugged into my Mac too, and yet the big startup bong still comes out of the CPU speaker, even when the externals are turned off. Now, if the startup chime was like the one in my old 6300 a few years ago, I wouldn't mind it at all. That was a lovely calm, serene chord, quiet and restful. Very pleasant to listen to.
